I've quite a few improvements to this over the past few months and I think it's now ready to be merged into the master branch. I've tested it in some quite interesting setups which should be crazy enough for anyone, unless there are more crazy people than me out there!

If anyone is concerned about this, now is the time to test.
I'll probably merge next weekend.
