Unfortunately, I wasn't able to backport the patch to 6.11.5, the
version in Raspbian (as I'm a sys/net admin, not a coder, my skills in C
are quite limited), so I couldn't recompile the package.
Looks like raspbian has dhcpcd-7.0.8 - should apply cleanly to that version:

I'm also surprised that this bug went unnoticed for so long. Is my setup
that uncommon ?
I would say that most posters to this list have something uncommon about
their network unless I did something really stupid - which does happen
from time to time.
I think I'll just add the route manually via a hook for now (I only have
two Raspberry Pis on my LAN for now, so that's not a huge task).
As long as it's working for you, I'm happy.
