dhcpcd defaults to BSD layout .... Linux systems like things in 
different places.

I can't find the build foo for it, but probably something like this:

./configure --libexecdir=/lib/dhcpcd --dbdir=/var/lib/dhcpcd

More modern Linux may want --rundir=/run
