Re: dhcpcd spamming the syslog with "eth0: invalid prefix in RA"

Tue Jun 03 00:07:40 2014For the Archives, I was sent a tcpdump offlist. Here is a summary of the problem and resolution. On 03/06/2014 0:19, Roy Marples wrote:
Interesting. I would not expect such behaviour. I shall modify my router to simulate yours and try and at least silence it to one log option. So in summary there are two issues at play1) Your router is sending in invalid link-local prefix along with a valid one.2) dhcpcd is being too noisy as a result - I'm sure we can patch this so only one error line appears until the RA changes or is forgotten and re-found. You should open a ticket with your router manufacturer explaining the problem so they can fix it. Feel free to CC me on it as well.
I have modified my router and fixed the issue with 3 patches (1st patch is corrected by 2nd)

BTW, my router broadcasts an unsolicited RA about about 5 minutes, not every few seconds. If your router is advertising unsolicited RA's OR broadcasting solicited RA's that much then that's another issue that needs resolving by your router manufacturer ;)
Thanks Roy
