dhcpcd-gtk thinks dhcpcd is down

I'm using wpa_supplicant and dhcpcd and they both work fine. I can connect to my wireless network and get an IP address. But when I start dhcpcd-gtk, it tells me dhcpcd is down, even though it is running. Its icon in the indicator panel displays a red X. Do you have any ideas on how I could get it to work?

I'm using Debian wheezy (testing) with dhcpcd 5.5.6, dhcpcd-dbus 0.6.0, and dhcpcd-gtk 0.6.0. Here is some console output that may be relevant:

foobaz@balrog ~> ls -lh /var/run/wpa_supplicant
