I'm having a really good experience with Gentoo for my "embedded"
scenario. Actually I'm building an x86 small router, so likely I don't
see half the problems other embedded users get and also I don't have a
problem with packaging, so this may not be a good choice for you.
However, it does seem to be quite a good choice for some requirements
Happy to take this offlist if you want to talk distros though
