First off, what OS / Distro are you using and how are 
dhcpcd/dhcpcd-dbus/dhcpcd-gtk packaged?

I ask as the configure program I ship does correctly call pkg-config for 
libnotify and where I maintain dhcpcd-ui (basically pkgsrc) does 
correctly depend on the library there also.
