I saw no difference using other FTP programs (or switching from a linux
to windows box).

Looks like it. If I tweak my (linux+iptables based) Firewall, I can use
ftp download from your server. So something is 'different', but I don't
understand what that could be.
Note that I regularly pull from other FTP servers without any problems.

To me it is not a big issue, as I prefer to use http downloads where
possible. So I will let this rest for a while, maybe I'll have some
brilliant new ideas when temperature is more moderate ...
